Capri axle

I,ve just been to look at what i hope will be my locost axle.
It's a 52 incher ( oerr ) and has already been cleaned and painted BUT someone has tried to drill out one of the studs in a half shaft ( strange I thought they were a press fit ???) this has damaged the flange face slightly.
Could I weld the face and dress it down? I could have it machined after welding.
It has the backplates in place but the drums and gubbings are missing so what should I do find drums or fit a disc setup?

And lastly the price is definately right a bottle of fine malt and it's mines (which is nice)

The studs just punch out, providing the damage to the face doesn't affect the fit of a new stud or the flush location of the drum on the flange face it shouldn't matter, if there are any high spots just trim 'em off with a grinder. Can't see any way you could easily fit discs, just find a suitable set of drums etc.

Disk fitting kits are widely available from most Ford Rally suppliers, try Rally Design or Burton Power for your first call, or it's not hard to make your own kit up.

I've read that Sierra drums and backplates will fit the Capri axle but I haven't actually tried them

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Sierra drums should fit but not the backplates, discs are the easy way out. For calipers an easy source is the Rover 600 all have rear discs a lot are starting to hit the scrap yards just now -- in tradditional Honda style 100% reliable and sail through MOTs until the hit 10 years old. The calipers and brackets are on these are very easy to remove.

I don't think I'll worry to much about the studs lads and lasses.
I should have looked closer to see if they had been welded in. But one has defo been drilled out ( or attempted ). I think I know where to get a couple of half shafts.
