205s will go on but will look silly.

195s are the widest that are really practical and will look good.

Depends to a degree on what the wheel size is and the aspect ratio of the tyre. On a 13" x 6" rim 205/60 section tyre can be OK (e.g. Yokohama 048's) but you can't go any bigger. On a 15" wheel max is more like 185 if you go down to 50 section.

To make it more difficult, tyre manufacturers are not at all consistent with their recommendations...

Just thought I'd muddy the waters :-)

I've got standard 15" diameter 6" wide Ford rims and they fit 195/50 tyres as stanadard.

But if you've got 15" Ford wheels with 50 profile they would be FWD offset

My car has 205/13 on 6" rims

I dont think it looks silly !!

But dont go that big as in the wet it is undrivable

the max I would use when i change would be 195/13 on 5-5.5 rims

Tyres from the narrow end of permmisable fiitments for any given rim width give the best handling.

With a locost rear tyres & rims are best wider than the fronts.
