M/C Resevior below brakes problem?

Hi,

I've got a vague memory that having the master cylinder resevior below the brakes causes problems with fluid seaping back & bleeding the brakes.

Am I remembering rubbish?

Just about to buy pedal box off stuart taylor and there m/c have the integral fluid resevior. Ian says its not a problem but i'd like some independent reassurance.

I had to turn my rear calipers upside down to bleed the system properly, I think a few people have had to do this.

that's cos the bleed nipples weren't at the top of the caliper, different problem to what Mike is asking

NS Dev - what are you fitting to the seven, remote or integrated reseviors?

Some people use RPV such as THESE
to overcome problems of master cylinders below the calipers causing excess pedal travel.

Havent done it myself yet but am considering it as I like a very firm pedal for track use.

I remember reading somewhere that if the reservoir head is below the calipers then fluid can indeed flow back a little causing you to have to double-pump the pedal if there's been sufficient time for that to happen. No problem with the mcs being low, but i'd have higher mounted remote reservoirs if I was doing that.

I wouldn't panic.

Virtually every competition car that I have seen recently has the integral cyls lower than the calipers.

Just started doing some servicing and pit crewing for a britsports team running a radical and they are very low in that and seemed to be working fine last weekend at silverstone!

It's only just come about really, time never seems to be there for me but I am supposed to be helping out getting the car ready for the next race, which is not this weekend but the next, at Oulton.

Had a lot of teething troubles including blowing a brand spankers powertec 1500 hayabusa (gearbox mistake) and damaging some poorly repaired bodywork. Car is good though, on the pace when things were going well.

Don't think you need passes Mike, just wander in I think. You'll need tickets, may or may not be able to help out there, would have to see!

Resovoir Position

I always mount my resovoirs low, below the caliper hieght and have had no problems. The pedal is always rock hard.

You may have a problem if you mount the resovoirs below the master cylinders though.......
