Which Willwood brakes, and from UK or USA?

I am organizing that a freight company consolidate a parcel of parts I have ordered from several UK suppliers (wheels from performance wheels, engine bits from V8tuner, ally hubs from deckman, carbs thanks to hughjinjin) to be sent to SA by sea freight.

I am tempted to include some Willwood brakes but as these are American (I think), it may be cheaper to buy them there. I intend to order a radiator and fuel cells from Summit Racing USA, so these could included with that shipment.

Can anyone recommend suitable calipers and vented discs (front only) for my cortina upright application? Car is a mid engined V8, full body, +/- 800 kg.

I know Rally Design et al can supply, but if I could quote the exact part numbers required I would hope an American supplier could source them cheaper?

Alternately, anybody got a suitable set of brakes they want to sell?

Cheers

My car is a similar weight to yours Fred, and on the front I have Wilwood Midilites on Vented Capri discs. The rear is standard Sierra at the moment but I will be changing to the Wilwood four-pots which have an integral mechanical handbrake. The brake bias bar allows some adjustment and I am pretty happy with the setup.
Regarding whether to source them in the US or UK, I would just compare prices and get them from the cheapest supplier - there won't be any difference in specs after all.

Cheers,
Raz

Geez, 2 hours, 150+ views and 1 reply.

I'll add a joke for all those looking in:

Bruce is driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge one day when he sees his girlfriend, Sheila about to throw herself off. Bruce slams on the brakes and yells, "Sheila, what the hell d'ya think you're doing?"
Sheila turns around with a tear in her eye and says, "G'day Bruce. You got me pregnant and so now I'm gonna kill myself."
Bruce gets a lump in his throat when he hears this. He says "Strewth Sheila.....Not only are you a great shag, but you're a real sport too."
And drives off.

It's my thread and I'll drift if i want to.......

I would drift too if I happened to be you!

Incidentally, Wilwood do have a pricelist on their site. They are California based and when I compared to the Rally Design prices there were some savings to be made. VAT plus other small savings, although (interestingly) not consistent across the range. I assumed that you could buy direct from them (but haven't tested this).

The sums saved are not massive as the Wilwood stuff is pretty economical now.

Now sure what you should use. Sorry.

Matt

Can you use any of the pre-engineered kits from Rally Design for Cortina parts. The prices seem fair and would include adapter plates and such..

These should be cheaper in the USA.
Direct shipping stuff out of the UK you shouldn't pay VAT so make sure you're not being ripped for that.

One this is for certain in Australia they're loads of money!
