Smaller handbrake

I've moved my engine quite far back and because the box is quite long the gearstick is right where the handbrake wants to go. I can't really (read as don't want to )move it back as there's a metal bar in the way.

does anyone know if there are "shorter" levers out there from another car.

The one I use - Toyota MR2 Mk1 is pretty small, can get you some dimensions if you want?

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

I shortened mine differently.

I removed the button mechanism then cut off the lever at the ridge near the button end (about an inch off). then made a new ledge for the mechanism by using a ring of blind rivets. reasembled it and bent the rod to suit. I found i had to drill out th hinge pin and replace it with a nut/bolt though.

works well and no welding involved

Not quite that far back if i put the handbrake in the std place the button would be 2" past the centre line of the gear stick.

Plus i want a straight up short shift gear lever not a dog leg one like some car's i've seen

Thanks for the pics i think ill get the gringer out at the weekend

be careful if you use my method. Cut too far and you will cut through the pushrod.
Best to use a dremel or if you are feeling energetic, a hacksaw. Good luck.

I have a lotus elan umbrella type under my dash, its been a bit of a PITA making the mechanism for it and I won't know how well it works for a wek or two but at least nothing to bash my elbow on!
