Cutting down polybushes
Hi, Anyone know if its possible to cut down polybushes and what the best method might be?
I need to cut down the flange to fit my wishbones into the brackets...
Cheers, James

Trimmed the outside diameter on mine by placing crush tube in position and inserting into chuck on lathe . Used a sharp cutting tool to do the job .
Doubt if you could do a good job without a lathe

Hi,
is the problem the same as the pic in your photo archive?
If it is then it might be that the wishbones have distorted slightly when they were welded - all of mine did a little.
Tweak them back to shape with a bit of brute force. Be careful though - go too far and the steel will yield at the HAZ of the welds.
Look carefully for any signs of change after you've tweaked them back, typically around the welds, showing up as little flakey bits.
If this happens - take them somewhere to have them rewelded or cleverly heat treated.
Hope that helps?
Geoff

Might try the lathe first, not too comfortable bending the wishbones

Lathe for me also.
Cut down rangrover bushes for the engine mountings. Sharp tool and go slowly.

I read somewhere that if you freeze the bushes first they are easier to machine on the lathe.
