Propshaft choice

If I am using an Escort (English) axle with a BEC (Daytona 955i). Now I understand for a BEC you need a two piece propshaft - would this one be a suitable start point for one of the prop manufacturers?

Just measure the length face to face of the engien adaptor and the english flange. Then measure where you want the centre bearing position say from the front flange. Make sure you know exactly what the diff flange is and also your adaptor flange.

Then just order one from either Dunning Fairbank or one of the others. Mine was £190 all in brand new.

So how crucial is the location of that centre bearing, and what options does one have on how that bearing is fixed? I appreciate there is some margin for error in the measurements due to the design of the prop. Do the prop manufacturers always use the same type of bearing/fixture? Was £190 for a Tube-in-Tube variety?

I think for a TRT then it is about £50 additional charge. The bearing position is not crucial at all. Remember that the joints work far better if they have an angle on them rather than straight.

My chassis had a plate in the base for a reverse box mount so I just used that to mount the bearing. Similarly you can mount them to the tunnel side walls just as easily. You may need some spacer blocks to get it reasonably straight but not too straight!

The centre bearing is normally a loop with either 2 or 4 bolt fixing.

Thanks Steve, that is just what I was after. I too have a plate (although not actually welded in yet) for a QUAIFE reverse box that i was going to use for the bearing mount.

Just had my prop refurbished at AutoProp. Cost £130 to have new UJ's, Centre Bearing, TRT, balanced & painted.
Had to shell out £70 to MK to have the front section modded for a sliding tube as well.
