Modified Steering Rack
Ok, so im very new to the kit car world and am learning everday. So please bare with me....
My MK Indyblade has just failed its MOT due to the steering rack being broken (or so the garage thought)... Well, i phoned MK and it would seem that
the steering rack is modified to fit the car, fair enough.
So my steering rack is actually fine, but is missing the metal sleeve that is supposed to cover the modification up.
1st, how important is this sleeve to the safety of the steering rack?
2nd, is there a quick fix? I dont really want to remove the rack and sen it to MK for fixing, the hot weather is finally here! So, does it have to be
a metal sleeve, or could it be welded?

I'm presuming that this is a shortened rack with the cut in the middle of the rack?
If so I'm not sure how important it is to the strength of the rack, MK or others on here will be able to say for sure, but if it was me I would
make a new split sleeve, wrap it round the rack and weld it up
Cheers
Alex
PS
Can an MOT guy really make a judgement call on the strength of a modified steering rack and produce a fail slip?
