What rear running gear?
Hey everyone, I am just wondering what type of rear components I will need, as in hubs etc? I am looking at getting a sierra diff to keep costs down
just now, but what hubs and driveshafts should it run? All sierra kit?
Heres a pic of the rear...
Cheers, Mark

Repper, I am thinking about a bike engine, infact im sure it will be a bike engine. Probably will be a 1000cc unit like a Fireblade/R1 but would like
a Hayabusa but due to cost I doubt I will be able to afford one.
Can I use a disc rear end if I got other uprights? And where would I get them from?
I am looking into Diffs at the minute and I am wonting something for acceleration but have no idea of the ratios available in the Sierra range, is the
common one used a 3.62 or something? And what cars should I be looking out for that have the LSD fitted?
Cheers Mark

yup agree with nib, looks like sierra drum uprights, brackets avail to convert to disc though or make em, depends what you can source from sierra and
also your choice.
good luck

hi mark
the rear up rights look like thay may accept a disc rear hub upright thay are vear diffrent to whats on my car as mine have a cut out so to fit the
caliper bits but your look very close to the hub monting points which is why i thnk a disc hub may fit
as for diff ratios in my V6 haynes manual it saysa 2.8v6 is 3.62:1 and a 2.3 is 3.38:1 i dont no what a 2.0 is but if you digg deep iam sor some one
on hear will no
tryed to get a pick on to show you but not worked if you go to my pic's and look at the pick that says (nice rear) you can see what i meen a
bout a cut out

I think you really need to confirm your engine choice and wheel / tyre size before you can select the appropriate ratio differential. I believe the
required diff ratio (as an example) for a ZX10R would be different to that required with an R1 or blade etc due to the gear ratio's / final
drive ratio.

Ill be using 13 inch or 14 inch Minilites and probably a 55mm profile or so. I will probably be looking for an R1 engine, but it eally depends what
comes up when I have the money for one. If a Blade or a Bird comes up, I will get it if you kno what I mean.
What is a commonly used DIff Ratio when running a bike unit?

Isn't the difference between drum and disk uprights just the where the pattern of bolt holes are.
I think they are just turned through approx 90 degrees, sort of vertical for drums and horizontal for disks.

They (uprights) look almost identical to my indy ones, with a cut out to the rear to accept disc calipers.
IMO an R1 engine would be the ideal choice, good price to power ratio.

You'll struggle to get a lot of 13" wheels over Sierra rear calipers so decision time!
You'll be fine with drums.
On my bitsablade, I've got 4 pots up front and the original 8" Escort drums on the back and it stops.
My avon also only had M16's on the front and 9" Sierra drums on the back and it was also fine.
Not sure why everyone gets hung up about discs on the back - harder to balance the lot as well as you'll need a bias valve or bar as well.

Discs look faster, i presume.
Mine will also have sierra drums, As they always worked fine for a sierra, so no worries they couldn't stop a locost.
Please feel free to correct my bad English, i'm still learning. Your Dutch is awfull! :-)
