Question for V8 builders - What Spring rates have you used?

Hi Gents,

As the title really, just trying to decide what spring rates are going to be best.

How did other V8 builders decide on spring rates?

TIA,

Mart.

Cheffy,

My shocks are the GTS ones, and since I've been on the road, I've replaced standard springs with (iirc) 300 lbin ones.

Unfortunately, I can't remember length (though I'm sure it's per original GTS length. I could probably go an inch longer so I don't have to wind up bases as much.

ATB

Simon

Hi Simon,

Thanks for that mate. Is that 300lb all round or did you use softer springs at the back?

Cheers,

Martin.

I used 275 lbs springs at the front and 175 lbs at the rear as recommended by MNR for my de-dion setup.

If you're going the IRS route with angled shocks you'll need higher rate springs.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the response. I'm going with inboard shocks at the front - and just to confuse things even further my inner top wishbones are half the length of the outers.

That said, I've got the Staniforth book to help me calculate spring rates but I needed a start point - ie. if I'm aiming for the equivalent of 275lb spring rate, I can use the formula's in the book to calculate backwards, as it were, to calculate the actual spring rate I need to use - I just wasn't sure what equivalent rate to aim for. If 275lb is good for you and Simon's using 300lb then that gives me a good idea of the sort of figure I'm looking at.

Err, hope that makes sense!

GTS de dion at rear so I would have thought that 175lb rear springs sounds about right for me too.

Cheers,

Martin.
