You were using the correct nut weren't you?

I did the same thing trying to pull the lower ball joint through the hole in the hub by tightening it up with a torque wrench. I eventually stripped the thread by tightening it too much, then couldn;t remove the nut to get the ball joint back out!

I ended up cutting the nut off and fitting a new ball joint which is tightened up as much as I dare (but less than I'd like), but is on my list of thing to put right when it's build and done a few miles bedding in on the road.

Bad feeling that I've over torqued this one two. On my list of must do's (remove nut inspect, replace as required), the problem I had was assuming the same torque as on the sierra. I think this is to high as the thread pitch is different...

This is the silly kind of thing that MK should put in the build manual... I would like a list of "correct" torque settings. With experience you probably don't need the table, but most builders have not developed a feel for torquing bolts correctly, as it's there first experience of this.

Buy a new one and start again. Tighten it up with a combination ring spanner and if it hurts your hand stop trying so hard. I only use torque wrench when I'm doing engine work. If you are using a click type you have to stop when it clicks, not try it again to make sure. They give too much leverage in inexperienced hands.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I'll second that. However it is an experience thing and everone in the trade spent time getting a b****king daily for stripping threads!

Fit a new one and learn from your misstake.
