3.1 Rear Diff alternative to Sierra

I thought some of you guys may be interested in this diff as the 3.14 Sierras seem to be getting rarer every week.

It has a 3.1 ratio ((10x31) and i took the pics next to a 7in Sierra diff for comparison

The measurements are all approximate (but with a tape)

LENGTH 42cm / SIERRA IS 40cm PLUS THE PINION SPIGOT
WIDTH 28cm OR 23cm (without shafts)/ THE SIERRA IS 26cm (without shafts)
HEIGHT 22cm / SIERRA 24cm

WEIGHT 21KG (without shafts) / SIERRA 20KG (without shafts)

Driveshafts are 108mm LoBro CV joint type.

Inside the gears look very strong compared to the Sierra or Freelander but this diff is not LSD.

Anyway......just thought some may be interested as an alternative.

Mark

You can't make a post like that and not say what the diff is from. Come on, spill the beans.

I have got a 3 series BMW brochure (current model ), and it gives all the diff ratios , they have 3.38, 3.23,3.15,3.08,2.81,2.56,2.47,and 2.35 ! I dont know if the older 3 series had the same ratios, but there will be plenty of those in scrappers now, probably worth a look as a Sierra alternative , I did read somewhere that Sierra driveshafts fit. I dont think many BMW s have LSDs (exept M3 ), all rely on electronics for traction

2.35

Cool That'd give mine a theoretical top speed of 191 or 70 mph at 2000rpm!

Any more details on what ratio on what car?

Cheers very much!
