Downlink length

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my car and I'm after a little advice,I'm going to get car builder solutions to make me a downlink(between sierra column and escort rack)
What is length you guys have between the triangular end of the Sierra column and the splines on the escort rack,I'm after a few answers here as I'm going to phone up and get them to make it for me(to lenght and with approriate universal joints etc)

I measured tonight roughly and I reckon a shaft arond 800mm would be pretty dam close,I know there is no definitive answer just after an average !!

Cheers Guys

mhh this is just a i do it my way component sow i can tell you my figure but it wont help you nothing.

just make sure your engine still fits in etc. etc. incl. its water pump, alternator etc. etc. oil filters and every thing wich could be in the way.

also i reckon that there is a sliding part in it sow there you will have some margin.

if i was you i would wait with ordering because its quite simple to make it.
(if you have the engine in)

Tks

I'm using 3 UJ and the rubber fellow to pass my engineparts and exhaust.
So i would first put engine etc. in, plan exhaust (if same side :-) ) Then measure and stick weld..... weld def and ...

you will live happely ever after

Please feel free to correct my bad English, i'm still learning. Your Dutch is awfull! :-)

Cheers guys,

Engine already in,I'm using a ZX10,I was just wondering really how far the steering wheel was coming into the cockpit as this would be detirmened by the lenght of the down link

Do the fixed things first, steering rack location, comfortable position for steering wheel then all the engine stuff, you might only have one option for the route of the steering downlink. I used a pair of sliding tubes to set the length and determine where support bearings would fit best. Once I had it set up I bolted the tubes together so I could get an accurate length. I welded my set up myself and it is fine.

One of the main decisions was whether to run the column above the foot well or between the pedals. I chose the former as I had serious exhaust manifold issues.
