Is this a bad idea?
I have a Renault Megane adjustable steering column which is millimetre perfect for my new project. The down side is that it is splined for a Renault
Megane steering wheel.
I have a (non sva compliant) mini column and fairly nice mini steering wheel.
Would the SVA man object if I cut an inch or so off the end of each column and welded the mini splined end onto the Renault column?

Col, I'm no expert, but I can't see why not. I know for a fact that some cars have gone through SVA with Q-release boss' welded on.

A lot of colomns are welded. You can even buy splined ends from ADR Engineering and just weld them onto some tube.
I have a colomn extension off a punto that has the UJ's welded on and that is a manufacturers part.

oooooh!!!!
MOT would fail any welding to steering equipment but it is a casse of whether they spot it.
I think most locost coloumns are welded to extend them, I know mine is and they all passed SVA.
So they asnwer I would give is go ahead as long as you are 100% confident you do a very very very good weld. I am sure you could hide it under
cowling.
I guess there is always the option of a mountney boss and either using one of their wheels or making an adaptor plate.
