Rack/gaiters/greasing

I've just fitted new gaiters to the rack having added a small amout of grease.
But now when I turn the steering the extending gaiter collapses due to an airlock.
It seems I've been too generous with the grease.
Anyone experienced this? and any tricks to clear it, short of removing the rack and flushing it out?

Saw a usefull tip that said to put a small diameter tube like the ones from a WD40 spray can under the gaiter and cable tie on top of it effectively giving it a breather yet small enough not to pi55 grease everywhere.
