Pitting Chrome
Im looking at some chrome wire wheels on the bay of E but the seller says they are chrome. The wheels are going cheap (at the mo) and i thing a
sevenesque car would look quite good with wires. Whats the solution to pitting chrome? Will i need to get them reconed?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Old wire wheels can be a PITA, the main problem being the spoke adjusting ferrals corroding and seizing.
Plan on having the spokes cut out, rechroming the rims and hubs and replacing the spokes with stainless ones.
It won't be a cheap option!

it would be cheaper to buy new wheels than get them redone as it needs striped with cyanide and polished and most platers wont be intrested in it as
its a bugger.
i was an electro plater for years zink copper brass silver nickel chrome gold ,and i done anodizing and powder coating ,bugger that was years ago
before i got my kit car....

thunderace - on an almost completely unrelated subject - you wouldn't happen to know anywhere north of the border that does anodizing would
you?
I've got a few custom made alloy bits that could do with it.

depends o how bad the pitting is; if you cannot live with that, then as ^^^ says, chrome needs to be removed and redone; unless you pay ££££ it is
unlikley that the rechromed items will end up looking as good as new ones.
or paint them silver

Like this
Personally I wouldn't have wire wheels on anything after having them on my Midget, a right PITA to clean, keep, tight etc. you need the center
hubs as well so can be expensive.

Wire wheels are bad news keep clear.
Apart from everything already mentioned they are heavy.
Also the bolt on ones just look daft.

I had them on an MGB and wouldnt consider them for a seven for the above resons .I had lots of broken spokes and found the splines also wore causing
them to clunk taking up the drive , they are also very heavy compared to most other options.

I am planning to use them.
I love the look of the Lotus 7 S1 with skinny wires and alloy body work.
Any one got some spare 15" wires in the shed?
