Brake pipe heat shield

Not sure where best to post this problem...

When running my engine last night I noticed a strange smell after about 5 mins...

finally traced it to the plastic clips that hold my brake lines in place! although I have put exhaust wrap on the headers, where they pass under the chassis top rail they only clear by about 40mm. The heat from the exhaust has melted the plastic clips holding the brake lines in place along that chassis member

SO... I need a heat shield along the inside of that member to protect the lines. Anyone got ideas on what best to use? and where to get it? (cheapest options only as the bank is empty )

cheers

Have noticed some builders make up a small ali. heat shield and then attach to an appropriate point. Probably a better idea than than reflective tube or mat (see RalDes) as air can circulate and cool the shield.
Need to sort out same prob. on my clutch cable which runs over the headers and is happily cooking the outer.
Cheers, Pewe

agreed, a ally shield is the best way to go and is whats used in production cars.

When I had this problem I just made one up from stainless sheet and then attached heat shield mat to the underside. that way you can shape it to your particular requirements and attach it where it's most convenient to you
