propshaft trouble

hi
i've got a type 9 gearbox and assumed that i had a mk2 propshaft and also a sierra prop but neither will marry up with the spline in the gearbox, are there different types of spline or am i doing something wrong.
advice always much appreciated

There is a master spline on the sierra prop , it will only fit in the correct location.
Paul.

Depends on the box your using, some type 9's have different spline sizes. Ihave 2 litre 5 speed box, a 1.6 4 speed and a 1.3 4 speed and each prop is different.

All the bits , i'm told, came off a 1.6 gt escort, so i'm guessing the box is 1.6 4speed. just the 2 props that came with it dont fit. Do you reckon this could be a scrapyard fix or more specialist supply required.

Since neither a Mk2 Escort prop nor the Sierra one would have been any good in their stock form, you might as well get a prop built by one of the specialists. The prices quoted on here by various people who have had this done have been surprisingly reasonable (IMO anyway).

Don't forget a propshaft is probably one of the more dangerous parts of the car, if it fails their is virtually nothing between it and your legs.
