Mounting subframe upside down!

Hi all, i am currently fitting a ford mondeo v6 in the back of my saab 1976 96.

I just want to ask peoples thoughts of how to mount the subframe. I want to mount it inside the car as it means not cutting a big hole in the floor and makes underneath much cleaner.

However this means that the mounting points will be the other way round. Ie i will be bolting from the top and into the car body from underneath. instead of the other way round like in the orginal installation.

It will make getting at the subframe a bitch if i need too but asides that any imediate problems?

cheers

I think you really need to take some pictures cos how many on here even know what a mondeo subframe looks like or what the inside of the SAAB is like also.

Are you replacing the whole running gear with the ford stuff, including the struts? If so I'd personally measure everything very carefully on the mondeo all fitted, model it on CAD (free off limewire) then use that to build the new structure in the SAAB. Sounds like it will be quite an involved conversion, plus remember you need to make a firewall around the engine to keep the engine bay separate from the cabin.

that is true, i know not many peeps will be able to help with the installation.

I was more after peoples opinons of mounting a subframe the other way round, its quite hard to describe but is more obvious when you see it. i don't think there is any difference but wanted to see of anyone thought different!

Don't worry will have some pics of the subframe in the car soon so everyone can pick holes then!

Wish i had the car at my house, is still at my long suffereing parents! Was fun when my wife and i lived there along with my parents and mine and dads projects. Made 7 cars in all!

I'm having difficulty visualising this to be honest. If the subframe is going to be mounted inside the car on top of the floor pan, how are you going to attach the suspension to it and get driveshafts out to the hubs?

the plan is to make holes for the wishbones and driveshafts. It might not work as the subframe will be quite high up in the car, though i won't know until i see how it fits in the car, will hopefully be able to do that this week end. Will post some pics of my plan then.
