midlifecrisis - 21/11/04 at 10:19 AM

Probably been mentioned here before ,but....... I,m looking at re-panneling my interior . Thinking of bare aly ,stuck over the existing panels which are painted aly .Have seen a couple of cars done like this ,and they look the dogs gonads !Anyone any comments about durability etc? ROD

Yeah ,but without the strap! The ones I saw did make the car look functional ,which I liked ,but was wondering about when the heat from the sun is on it ,it may be a bit hot ?

Peteff - 21/11/04 at 11:00 AM

I'm going to use it to make stuff. 3mx .5m for £20 all in. If you get fed up of polishing you could cover it with that.

Several lots in there. It is a lot of material and would probably cover the outside as well

At least the panel shapes would be there for padding later on ,as you say.I can get the vinyl cheap from our local market . My main prob is I have green coloured seats, which were there when I bought the car ,&cant find a perfect match for the colour .Theyre really comfy, and I'm loathe to change them . that upholstery paint I'snt really effective ,hence my idea to neutralize everything with aly panneling . The more I look at that aly panneled interior ,the more i think ,GIMME,GIMME!!

mine is bare ally inside, dosnt really get that hot when standing in the sun, probly cos we dont get that much sun

I'm making new interior panels. Mine are covered, but the same idea might look good in ali. some pics on archive.

Zetec, they look good ! Was toying with the idea of leving most of the interior showing the chassis ,then just panelling either side of the seat area . ROD

I must agree....nice job zetec

Do you need interior panels for the sva or can you leave chassis rails exposed if you like?

Thanks,

Mark

You can leave them exposed, most do I think.

midlifecrisis - 22/11/04 at 05:47 PM

I've always found interiors difficult to make look 'factory finished'. I tend to go for wacky ,wayout interiors that use the design ,rather than the finish to distract you ! Not so much scope on a Locost for way out stuff though! Not really interested in boring old black ,don't want to copy anyone else ,so its hard for me to decide what to do . ROD

I've seen an MK Indy with the interior covered in a very short, tight pile carpet, almost like black "Flotex" carpet. Does anyone know who could supply any of this?

Regards

David

I bought mine from the Exeter show, 2 big rolls cost £10, it is short looped pile and a transparent plastic backing. Rescued attachment Interior2.jpg

midlifecrisis - 23/11/04 at 07:17 PM

Won't the carpet get wet and start to smell? ROD

Mark Allanson - 23/11/04 at 07:47 PM

I thought of that, they are only on the vertical surfaces, and they are fully synthetic so no rot

vintagebuilder - 24/11/04 at 09:12 AM

Mark,
That's exactly what I'm looking for. Since there are no shows in the immediate future can you remember the company you bought the rolls from. I could then get the carpet mail order.

Regards

David

I cannot remember the name, but they were on T2 all the years I have been. Someone must still have their show program

vintagebuilder - 26/11/04 at 06:13 PM

Mark,

Thanks for that. Can anyone who has visited the Exeter show help?

Regards

David
