Aluminium Sheets

Hi,

I'm about to start making my dash panel and I'm trying to get hold of some aluminium sheets.

I live near Oxford so could anyone recommend a local (ish) supplier ???

I know that I need a 19mm lower radius for SVA, but what are the best ways to go about forming this with aluminium???

Any help would really be appreciated!!

Many thanks

Matthew

i have not done it myself but it would make sense to cut it over size for height then form the bottom of it around a suitable sided tube.

Are you covering it?

If you cover it you can use the padding to form the radius. Polished alli dashes are a bad idea, they dazzle you.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thanks

Yes, I'm planning to cover it with some form of vinyl.

The main problem I have is trying to find somewhere to buy the ally from........

Cheers

from yell.co.uk

search for aluminium + oxford

Preform Engineering & Aluminium Co.Ltd Tel: 01295 250724

Thorpe Way, Banbury, Oxfordshire OX16 4SP
Classification: Aluminium Stockholders

could also try fabrication places or general metal stockholders ?

ps: ask for offcuts much cheaper, pay cash cheaper still (I've has some large (2m X 1.5m) size offcuts for next to nothing

I made the safe radius at the bottom out of wood.

get a suitable sized bit of wood, (in my case about 30mm thick and 40mm deep) and sand it with a power sander to a decent radius. then cover it with sleeping bag roll underlay (sponge about 10mm thick holding it with double sided tape.

then, wrap the whole lot with the same pvc you are using for the dash. You can then mount the padded radiused 'bar' at the bottom of the dash panel, which can have a simple 90 degree flange.
