Removing GRP Seat...

Afternoon

This is probably going to sound stupid but I’m going to ask anyway.

I’m trying to take my GRP seats out of my Locost to redo the interior etc but I’m a little confused, there are a number of bolts under the car the obviously hold the seat in place but when I try to undo them the nut and the bolts spin. I can’t get my hands under the seat (inside the car) to hold the bolt end still, I would have presumed they were captive bolts or something similar but I guess not.

So shall I just cut them off or am I missing something glaringly obvious?

Thanks in advance
Matt

Are the seats on runners ? if so can you slide the seat forward or backwards to get at the bolts you may need a allan key to hold the bolt head or will the seat slide off the runners .
Are the seats bolted down the sides of the seats some are ?

No the seats are not on runners... I can get to the front bolts but absolutely no chance of getting to the others, i cant even see them. They are also no bolts down the sides either, even if they were i couldn’t get my hand down as the seats go right to the edges with about 1 cm gap each side.

GRP seats usually have a nut inside fibreglassed inside (usually m8).

If it's spinning it may have come loose inside the seat, for the sake of a bolt I'd probably chop the bolt off to remove it in the first instance.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, it confused me because I thought if the nut is in the seat then there wouldn’t be a nut end under the car , that’s all there is no, bolt ends showing, that’s why I presumed the bolt end would be inside the car with a captive washer or something to hold it in place.

All of the nuts and bolts spin not just one or two so I wasn’t sure if was missing something obvious.

Guess ill have to chop them off!

Were they tight to start with? They may be loose bolts with some sort of captive arrangement they are meant to lock against. Try pulling dwon on the bolt while undoing or 'pull' them at different angles while undoing.

I didn’t build the car so I can’t be sure. There is a lot of visible loctite so I would assume they were tight… In honesty it got dark before I could really attack them, ill have another go at the weekend.

My seat is mounted on anti-vibration mounts so I have a nylock nut/washer underneath the car as opposed to a bolt going into the seat.
