noise meter

hi. does anybody local to me have a noise meter i could borrow. I need to replace my k&n filters but if my cars to noisy allready I'll have to make an air box. thanks m.

Unless it's calibrated be aware that most cheap "noise meters" are only good for relative measurements e.g. measure with your standard exhaust can, switch it to a new can and re-measure to see if it's higher or lower. Keeping a noise meter properly calibrated isn't cheap....

Maplins sell them for not a lot of money (£20ish) can't vouch for the accuracy but their stuff's normally quite good.

I have a maplins one that was 3db out @ 100db when tested against a SVA calibrated one.

Strangly enogh also just outside Keighley.

I just bought the £20 maplin one as I have a trackday coming up soon.

0.5m 45deg from the exhaust it peaked at 120db at 4.5K rpm!!! That cannot be right... the car hasnt done many miles since passing msv's noise test at bedford and after a quick look the packing in the can seems ok.

noticed the maplin one measures dbc so hopefully a dba measurement will be lower

my maplin one has settings for all sorts and i'm sure dba is there.

(although it did cost twice what yours cost and hasn't been used yet!)
