5VY R1 weird idling
stuart_g - 14/6/08 at 09:31 PM

Don't know what has happened but I now have a strange thing happening, When revving the engine the revs do not return to idle straight away it is delayed by a second or two, also the engine dies occasionally when the throttle is blipped. I have an extra throttle return spring fitted. I have looked for air leaks but can't find any. The idle adjuster doesn't seem to do anything either. Strange thing is it has been fine untill today when I took the car for a run on private land to set the brake bias up, dipped the clutch and the engine stopped, it restarted but then found it had this problem. Any idea's?

I had a similar problem with my R1 mini. When using the electric reverse the currant drain was enough to stall the engine. If I just pressed the starter button after that it would idle up past 2k. The cure was to disconnect the live to the ecu and reconnect before starting again.
It seemed to go into some random map.

Mine doesn't settle to idle if you blip the throttle (even with an extra return spring). If you watch the throttle spindle it shuts then lifts slightly. On the bike its pulled shut by the return cable and held there. Not a problem driving.

If I stall it, it revs to 2000 on restart as Koss says.

Whats yours idling at? Is the idle screw just undone too far and the throttle is fully shut? I'd screw it in untill it starts to have an effect.

try draining the float chambers, mine was playing up last week would tick over but as soon as the throttle was blipped it would stall, drained the carbs and lo and behold water not much but just enough that when the carbs wanted full fuel flow the water was being sucked up into main jets.

Stu,
i take it you've not loaded the sva map? as that's how mine ran with it loaded.
maybe try disconnecting the PC if it's connected.
the voltage rectifier isn't getting to hot is it? i know you've hiden away a lot of the bike hardware.

Tried it again last night and all was ok, very strange.

No map loaded in the power commander so can't be that.

It only started to happen when very hot, but was also doing it when cool, now it is all ok.

I think this is something I'll have to keep an eye on and see how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestions.
