Hi all,
The competition is proving fairly popular already.
What i would like is some ideas on how to draw the result fairly. I could pick out of a hat, but, then people might think i can fudge the result.
Anyone got any ideas?

You could post a date and get a few punters round to witness/ draw it.
Then you might sell some extra bits at the same time
you could let me draw the ticket ..... hold on, just let me buy one
easiest way may just be to use a php script.
give every ticket a number, make a script pick a random number between 0-1700 or whatever and print/display, pretty much foolproof

I don't know if there are any legal rules about this, the law is pretty tight on draws and raffles so it could be worth checking out. Probably
all right with an independant witness though.
If you want it checked out properly I can check with a legal service provided by the Institute of Marketing for you. I'm away for the next week
or so but drop me an email with the basic details of the draw and I will check things when I get back.
just made www.hairy-arse.com/Random.xls
quicker and easier than a php script

don't think much of the php script idea. who would write it? who would run it? what random number generator would you use? etc.
maybe you could literally draw it out of a hat at a kit car show or something? be a good way to sell the last few tickets as well.
get some minor passing motoring celeb to draw it for that extra authenticity.. your sponsored race driver maybe.

You'll see on the users list that there are several organizations using this service for monthly drawings.
If you're stuck for a trusted dignitary to perform the drawing, you could always have an accounting firm do it.
Great idea, IMO; I hope it's legal! In the U.S., the only organizations permitted to conduct lotteries most places are charities and, er,
governments
i vote for doing it live at a show. more publicity at the stand and many witnesses. not that im buying a ticket myself, im not a gambling man.
bloody good idea though!
I have a sneaking feeling that you need a permit from your local council. The wife was looking into fundraising for the pre-school and was told a
licence was needed at a cost of about £35. Thieving gits.
Sorry to be the harbinger of doom.

I was wondering about the legal aspects... if you just sell tickets and draw out a winner it's regarded as a lottery. This is why those TV
competitions always have crap questions to answer - it's then regarded as a quiz or test of skill, and doesn't have to meet the lottery
regulations.
Might be worth a few discrete enquiries, Darren!

What about doing the draw at your local meet!
That being Newlands corner!
It's about time we saw you there Darren!
Atb,
James
yeah, you could bring my bodywork and save me the courier cost too
Ned.
I could always put my basque and suspenders on to enhance the overall look of the draw.
36,24,36 are the numbers to drool over, and no i am not kidding. I would post a picture but i have noticed that there are a lot of old men on here so
wouldn't want to be the cause of anything.

We'll risk a few members if it's that good
. It's the luck of the draw we want enhancing really. You're not AlanB's
cleaning lady by any chance are you? I don't think anybody's that lucky.
Mandy,
Come on,show us your wares!!!!
