Panel above footwells

Sitting admiring freshly-made cut outs for suspension and pondering generally, I wondered if the following would be feasible / advisable ?

People put horizontal panel above footwells and use this to support battery, expansion tank etc. Would it be an idea to extend this panel back to meet the dash and even roll the edge to give SVA compliant edge ?

Or is this what everybody does anyway ?

Could be done but would give problems with access to wiring etc. behind dash!

I was thinking firewall rivnutted and thus detatchable. Also dash detatchable from front.

Having footwell panel extended back would make it easy to have glovebox.

Hi if you look in my archive under westfield heading. You should find some pics of the black car done in this way.

Used to do this on all the cars for racing but it meant that for us when we had the slightest problem we had to remove scuttle and bonnet. Not the easiest thing to do 2mins before you are due out on circuit so reverted back to normal.

But for road use good idea and the scuttle can be held down with catches same as bonnet with just a peg either side to hold positivly inplace.

Will try and post pics but think in wrong format.
Cheers matt

Having looked at it again, with the scuttle in place, I see what you mean Caber - the firewall is part of the scuttle fibreglass. However I think it would still go if the dashboard were easily detachable.

Thanks also to Matt procomp for the pictures.
