jon_95 has first dibs, subject to agreeing the additional postage cost to send to S. Ireland.

If this falls through, 55ant has second dibs.

So all in all, it's probably sold!

Im going to have a go at making one of those, just to see how easy or hard it is,and cost.

Look at my website here. - follow the menu link to "Special tools and parts", then "Ford 5-speed gearbox extension".

No dimensions, but not too hard to work out... several people have managed!

I reckon it's better than the Westie extension too - but then I'm biased.

David,

I'll be fine making the plate parts, (albeit slowly ), and I assume the detent etc are taken from the original shaft? If so, can I assum that the only bit I would need the lathe for is the new shaft?

I would like to have a go at making the extension myself but will have to source the shaft elsewhere (unless you fancy knocking one up for me for suitable beer chits? )

Easy if you have a lathe - and the time (which I don't )

I had though about using steel tube - if you can find a piece with an internal diameter exactly the same as the outside of the gearbox shaft, plus a short piece of steel rod with the same o.d. as the shaft, then you could fabricate something without the lathe.

Nice idea about the tube

So if I get someone to machine a shaft for me, I assume I just need to caliper the internal and external measurments for the shaft and selector mechanism, and make the shaft as long as I need to extend?

With the dash I have, the gear lever actually sits behind it when in 1st/3rd . I reckon I'm going to need to have at least 5-6" extension (to the gear change for the pervs out there ).
