2005 R1 Engine (5VY) for sale
lsdweb - 18/7/10 at 11:21 AM
Hi All
In order to concentrate on my Lotus Elan rebuild and get some cash, I’m selling my low mileage R1 engine. I bought this from PaulTigerB6 on here and
ran it in my single seater for half a season - two sprints and one and a bit (in the trees after 20 seconds!)hillclimbs.
The specification is as follows:
Really low mileage 5VY ( Paul has confirmed 5805 miles when he bought it - he never ran it and i've put about 200 miles on it only! ) engine
complete with:
Throttle bodies (and tb loom)
Carbon fibre airbox and K&N filter (mid engine setup)
Starter
Thermostat.
Regulator / rectifier.
The modifications are as follows:
Sump baffle (Nitram)
Blanked off AIS (carbon fibre blanks) – I will include the AIS
VDO Oil temperature sensor in sump
VDO Oil pressure sensor on end of braided flexi hose - photo
36/1 crank trigger wheel so that you can use an aftermarket ECU such as Emerald, Megasquirt etc. I’ll include the original as well. I may also include
the Emerald maps that cost me a fortune on the rolling road!
Sump and oil filter are wirelocked in place.
The engine doesn’t come with the ECU and loom as I ran it on an Emerald. I’ll throw in any other bits I may have like spare coils, oil etc..
I’m open to sensible offers via U2U.
I’m in South Wales but travel a fair bit and if you’re really keen, I’m driving to Sunderland on Tuesday – home Wednesday so could meet up!
Regards
Wyn

Sorry for the hijack but is there any benefit (other than weight) in blanking off the AIS? I guess if you ran the bike clocks you'd see an error
code?

Mileage confirmed at 6000 (thanks Paul).
Blanking off the AIS probably makes it easier to map as well as simplifying the installation and saving a tiny bit of weight!

what power does thers run then
lsdweb - 18/7/10 at 02:51 PM
On the rolling road it was calculated at 182 bhp at the 'flywheel' .

If working correctly, the AIS closes once the engine is hot, so should not affect mapping.
I've left mine on my car and no detrimental effects.

As Nitram says, once hot it should close. I left mine on at first but found it was affecting the exhaust gas even when hot as it still leaks some gas
(it shouldn't but did) giving a false, higher, O2 reading. It's only there to improve the emmisions when cold. I removed it and then modded
the housing as part of the improvement to the crank breather. Disconecting the valve doesn't give a fault code.

Thanks adithorp. It's just one more variable (to remove) when considering mapping.

Hmm I might remove the AIS off my 5PW then.
Good luck with the sale BTW!
