Autotune Gemini (full body kit car) for sale

Autotune Gemini

As much fun as it's been to work on, I've decided I just prefer sevenesque kit cars, so the Gemini is up for sale. Happy to consider a part ex (cash either way) for a BEC seven.

I've owned this one about two years, being the third owner. It's a magazine featured car in its past, with quite a unique colour scheme and style. If you don't know, the Gemini is based heavily on the Elva race cars of the 60s hence the styling. More details on Autotune website here: http://www.autotuneuk.com/gemini.html apparently, there is even a picture of this car on the wall in their reception!

Ok so the car:

12 Months MOT
Nice age related plate, correctly registered on V5
Mk2 escort based
1600 xflow engine - tuned, but I have no receipts sadly. The head is ported and polished. Oil pressure and compression both good.
ZZR bike carbs, on a Fast Dan manifold, with new ZZR pump and sausage filter
Type 9 gearbox with quickshift
Polo rad, with Spal fan on temp switch, and sought after top mount pressure cap (see pics) stays cool when needed.
New water pump
Alcon dizzy, new leads etc
Dynojet lambda sensor and gauge as well as Oil pressure, water temp, voltmeter, and the usual tachometer and speedo
New battery
Cortina discs at the front, live axle drum brakes at the back with panhard rod
Full wet weather gear!
Special ford rally wheels (detailed in the magazine article)
Comfy bucket seats and three point inertia belts
Useable boot space
Yoko tyres, all good

It's not a balls out track car, more of a nice tourer - think Classic Brit sports car, great for B road blasts and sunny cruises. Sounds lovely.

The bad bits: Speedo not working, but I think it just needs calibrating as the signal from the gearbox is good. Some scuffs on the body, but presentable. Wheels a bit pitted and would benefit from a refurb. Runs very well, but a little rich - would benefit from an RR session for fine tuning.

Price:- £4,900 which includes the LCB discount! I have a trailer and can deliver if required for some additional beer tokens. Good amount of spares included if the asking price is met.

I'm south of Norwich. U2U if you want more info or a viewing. I make great tea!

what a nice car...a pitty that the reg-date is from 2002....so unfortunately not legaly homologatable outside UK..... otherwise i would have bought it...as i had one around 5y ago or so...and regret that i sold it.

what my car suffered from: the original mesh-grille (same as yours) in the front mouth restricted the airflow...my car was equipped with the original escort radiator directly mounted upright, middle in the enginbay, in front of the engine, the car was hardly used from its builder...he owned it for around 10years. i drove it home on the road, mainly motorways, luckily without traffic-jams. once home, driving through the town, i noticed that the temperature was always near the limit. i changed it to a VW one....a huge / wide rad, installed near the front opening, incl. airducting. even with this new raditator the car didnt run cool on hot days or when hard driven through mountains.

i removed the grille, installed the original radiator..job done.

Not much I can do about the reg plate!

The standard mesh grill is restrictive, hence the holes in it. Orginally, this car has the escort rad in it, which worked ok but did run a bit hot.

I've fitted a polo rad nice and low right behind the opening, with a spal fan. this seems to work fine and is much neater.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Where do you live, alfas?

alfas - 12/7/16 at 05:43 PM

outside UK, but inside EU

UK is the only country where the emission classification is done by the engine age, or with a q-plate its onyl a visual test.rest of europe the classification is done by the reg-date.

A Gemini kit is more than this car... I'd have to paint it but do wish I could have it.

However, one is more than enough - particularly at the rate I'm spending on it.

Now sold. off to a nice chap in Leicester - if you see this Glenn, hope you enjoy it!

rgb247 - 10/8/16 at 09:09 PM

Hello Ben, yes this is Glenn the proud new owner. Other than a slight wobble when a fuse went on the way back I made it to Leicester trouble free. Your right about the rad, nice and cool so long as you're moving.

First job was swapping the bonnet screws for pins for easier tinkering access. Now trying to get my head around how to tune those ZZR600 carbs.

Only just got it. Not planning on selling anytime soon

Norfolkluegojnr - 11/8/16 at 08:26 PM

Hi Glenn,

Great to hear you made it home safe. What fuse blew? I don't ever remember blowing one! There is a main fuse under the steering column too if you hadn't found it yet.

Start a thread of your own so we can keep up to date on your progress. Let me know if you need any help on the carbs

Didn't manage to hold onto the money for long either...... Picture of my new car on my last thread.

rgb247 - 11/8/16 at 08:48 PM

Very nice! I did look at the Furys too before I decided I wanted a Gemini.
It was the one for the fuel pump that went (far left). Didn't blow as such but didn't look good when i pulled it, soon as i'd changed it i was away again.
Will start a new thread this weekend... or maybe carry on from yours a couple of years ago if no objections.
Have an uprated new starter motor and engine mounts to fit this weekend. Hopefully give me another inch of ground clearance for the sump. Did you ever use the choke to start? I can start without it, if i pull it on more than 1/4 little it'll cut out. Assume using the choke makes it sooo rich it cuts out.

Norfolkluegojnr - 12/8/16 at 07:44 AM

Don't remember ever blowing that one, but the fuse box isn't great. I always intended to change it to a modern blade fuse one, but another of those jobs I never got round too!

I've seen you restarted my old thread - thats great, keep the updates coming. Would love to see how you get on.
