Whats it worth??
pointy - 11/3/08 at 08:50 PM

Gents/ladies,

I have been trying to sell my 2 year old Luego velocity on e-bay but the response is poor.

I was asking a realistic price of £5,500 with a reserve set at 5,000.

Now I appreciate that beggining of march may be a tad to early to try to sell a car with no roof, heating, windsreen wipers etc etc but am starting to think about why so little interest.

Does the fact it only has A 1600 x flow with minor tweeking and single carb have affect or is it that it looks looks like Noddys car.
Is it worth taking the engine out and selling as a sva passed rolling chassis for £4,500??
Pic enclosed and ideas welcome.

MHO is its a combination of all of the above,(everyone wants BEC or a Zetec, whilst being a very tidy car the colour scheme won;t be to everyone's chioce) as well as ebay being crap for selling cars!

as far as selling it as an SVA'd chassis without engine, think you would still struggle at £4.5k

Sorry but I do have to agree with Ray re: the colour scheme, maybe respray the Red to Black?

The engine is secondary and the price is a bit steep IMHO.

I'd replace the wings and arches with black or yellow gel coated items and re-advertise at £4,950 with a sale price of £4,750 in reserve.

I'd also wait a month or two before re-advertising.

daft question - what is your realistic lowest price?

If someone came along with 3k cash would you sell?

I'm asking cause already peeps are starting to knock your price down. What will you sell for, how much do you want to sell.

(i'm not suggesting you put the answers here as you'll lose all bargaining power)

Although i'm curious what you'll get for it as it will value my car when i finish it in 10 years time.

I have to agree with changing the wing/arch colours.....I too, would either go with yellow to follow through the bonnet and the rear panel colour.
Or, go black to follow through with the cock-pit/roll bar colour......

I really wouldn't put a finished/SVA'd 7 on the 'bay of e' myself, it seems to be more hassle than it's worth these days.

Why not try an advert on Piston Heads?......If I was looking for a finished car, I would look on there as my first port of call...

All IMHO of course

ATB Fozzie.....

Oh, and you are right, not the best time of year to be selling really.......

For my 2 p worth I would not bother with ad at moment with floods, gales and snow
but would reply to those posting who are looking for a kit and seriously in the market. You can then get into detailed discussion re colour/ engine/ steering wheel or whatever else may not be to their liking without the tyre kickers and dreamers getting too close.
We have sold over a dozen kits in this way and always find decent people to deal with.

as fozzie says - wings f+r can be unbolted and painted yellow.

nowt wrong with crossflow - you would lose more removing it then the hassle of selling the engine which unless fancy spec, don't go for that much couple hun tops - more peeps would be interested if they could drive the car away than having to figure out how to transport it.

Id say paint the red bits yellow too. Pobs only a lazy weekend work. That way there isnt too many different colours.

Value is difficult to determine on any of these cars. Its worth what someone is prepared to pay. Piston heads is probs better bet. Get some good pics and make the ad read well. Look for comparables for sale.

Black arches and suddenly it's a different beast altogether.

This will sound horribly contrived, but I have a pair of black front arches - one of which I've started to trim at the front for a 'slash cut' look which you can have for £10 plus P&P if it helps.
