It goes in the breather hole in the block, its supposed to separate out the oil / air before it goes into the inlet manifold (its got a valve so it can't go the other way) - that way you get 'positive crank case ventilation'

If you running a catch tank instead, some people use these to help it breath a little easier and minimise what ends up in the tank (with the valve taken out obviously)

That’s the older style one from a carb'd engine, the efi engines just have an inline valve thing that’s not much use for a catch tank setup.
