FS: BEC Track / Race Project

Due to a change of plan I am selling my BEC Track / Race chassis and associated parts.

The chassis is all round-tube using a mix of 1.6mm and 1.1mm wall 25mm ERW tubing. As you will see from the pictures it is extensively triangulated. The chassis is effectively a Locost footprint but is an inch taller in side profile.

The roll cage is a kit from Caged that has then been custom mounted – it includes a drivers’ side impact bar.

The chassis is designed to use the Freelander diff, which is included. There are a pair of driveshafts with lobros in good condition – however, the shafts are in two halves at the moment awaiting either ‘sleeving’ to length or new replacement shafts from Westgarage, Mac#1 etc.

The chassis currently has engine mounts for the ‘06-’07 ZX10-R engine but these could obviously be changed if required.

The chassis utilises Cortina front uprights and hubs and MNR rear uprights. These are included also, as are four lower wishbones in CDS.

What is unusual about the chassis is the number of mounts included to aid the build and maintenance processes. So, all earth mounts are welded in, as are tabs for Dzus fasteners to secure all sections of removable bodywork. Likewise, there are tabs to help secure cables, hoses and brake/fuel lines. There is even a mount for the Kevlar paddle-shift rocker fulcrum (again, I’ll include this in the sale), exhaust can tow-loops, ARBs etc etc.

The master cylinder mounts are in place as are the pivot points for the pedals.

So, the ‘bad’ bits.
* The front lower wishbones need shock mounts adding.
* The front shock mounts on the chassis need cutting-off and repositioning.
* There are steering column mounts in place but there will need a secondary bracket to use a collapsible column if the car is to be put through IVA.
* Upper wishbones require fabrication
* The forward-most diff mount requires some finishing
* There are a few missed welds that need sorting out.
* The steering rack mounts need welding in – I have the laser cut parts courtesy of Saturn Sportscars.
* The chassis needs ‘polishing’ i.e. spatter knocked-off and some welds flattened prior to paint / powdercoat.

The project will come with a couple of Excel files that show the intended geometry, and the way that the suspension is designed to act in bump and roll. I’ve also a part made wooden jig for the front upper wishbones.

I’m sure I’ve missed something. Please ask or better still come to see it in South Wales.

The parts above owe me well over £1500.

I’d like £825 ovno.

Additionally, I can offer a carbon fibre nosecone (Westfield) to suit for an additional £200.

if thats the chassis that steve was building then I can assure anyone interested it will be a very well thought through chassis.

I've had a lot of work done by steve, and its all been very good, his attention to detail is excellent - so if it is the same one then Tim is selling a gooden!

edit - is that a prop catcher I see? proves the point.

If you look carefully, there's two of those.

I can't believe this is still for sale... first Prawnabies car and then this! Bargainarama!

If my garage wasn't chock full and I thought I could hide them under a tarpaulin from my missus, then I would have had both!

Somebody buy that project... !

Ethically, I'm not sure I could sell it to you... it would be a bit like an alcoholic selling his stash of hooch to his mate from the AA meetings.

I bought it last year - 25 years old and 25,000 miles on the clock!
