How do you report a car as scrapped?
I've taken apart 3 cars recently. Stripped them myself, then what's left of the body went to the local metal recyclers.
Looking at the V5 there is no section to mark the vehicle as disposed. Should I just write a letter to the DVLA to say these cars are now scrapped and
no longer in existence?
I've got 2 of the V5's and 1 green slip where the V5 hasn't arrived (still clearly registered on the system as I got a SORN reminder
for it!)

Dont you need a license to scrap them nowadays? Assuming you took a shell somewhere, they might be responsible for registering it. I think the v5
doesnt allow you to declare it scraped because because you arent meant to!

You need a certificate of destruction which you send to the DVLA...

on the back of the v5 it says " if you have broken up the vehicle yourself, you must either tax it or tell us you are keeping off the public
road by making a sorn, until you take it to an ATF or tell us you no longer have it"
So just tell them you don't have it

Ok, I'll declare them as SORN and tell them I no longer have it.
What's a Certificate of Destruction? Is a letter from the recyclers going to be enough?
What exactly are you not allowed to "scrap"? If I took off all the parts, including body panels and sold them off individually - is that
illegal?!
Bloody nonsense.

Fill in the yellow section of the v5 and send it to the dvla make 3-4 copies of it and send in seperate envelopes. Cut the vin plates out of the
shell and take it to the local scrap yard. If it's just a shell they prob won't even bat an eye lid. You only need a waste carriers
liecence if you regularly carry scrap iron.

I've got the VIN plates off 2 of the cars, the last one is still on the body, but I'm sure I could go and reclaim it from the
recycler's yard if required (it was only taken there a couple of weeks ago).
Like I said, I'm on good terms with them so there's no issue me getting a letter from them to confirm they've disposed of the body
shell.
Will send all notifications to DLVA in separate envelopes for the separate vehicles obviously, from past experience!
Just a ridiculous process this...

I have just recently written to the DVLA to declare my donor is scrapped. Not heard back from them yet, but after a long call to them, this is the
correct way of doing it. The V5c no longer has a scraped section to fill in.
There is not a lot of info on the web to guide you on this, regarding kit cars. They should make it easier and clearer.
By the way, your lucky you got a SORN reminder, mine didn’t come and potentially could cause issues..... fingers crossed its all sorted as i did SORN
it online over a year ago. Apparently they don’t send reminders......
