If it has the set up bits that are needed to make it work easily, I'd be happy to take it off your hands - we've never had a satnav before (true dinosaurs)

I have heard stories of registration problems when they are sold and want to avoid them - my it skills are too limited. If they are not an issue, then we'll have a go.

Thanks
Gavin

! You're going to have to give it away

I'd have it myself, but I've already got one and don't expect it to break

Hi all,

Thanks for the questions:

1. Its 3 or 4 years old I think, we bought it new, and have hardly used it, it is one of those things we thought would be handy, but we never used.

2. It is only UK.

3. I have never registered it.

4. I'm at work at the moment, will look what model it is when I get home and update.

5. Everything is present which was in the box when it was bought, I don't think the cd has been opened.

I would like it but need to know the model - if it's one that has enough capacity to upgrade to include European then I'll take it. If it's strictly UK only then someone else can have it. Just need to know the model and I can look it up and see if it's upgradable.

The upgrade you need is to change the SDRAM card for a bigger one.
With older Tom toms, they might not take the SDHC cards. Hence you need to check out with a spare (HC and non HC) card first to see which type works, before buying anything.

My TTOne does not accept SDHC, but does take std non-HC 4Gb cards. With that I can get the whole of the UK mapset, and the Western Europe as a secondary set of maps.

Final point... I would NEVER use the SDRAM card that comes with the TT. COPY all the data onto another (perhaps larger) SDRAM Card, safely store the original. Then use the copied SDRAM card. Then if you screw up the card, its just a case of getting another SDRAM card, copying over from the original, and away you go again. Rather than have a TT that doesnt work, and you cant get it going without paying TT a shed load of money.
ie BACK it all up BEFORE you do anything at all.

Each TT has a serial code, that locks the Maps to that particular device. Hence you cant just copy maps from one TT to another, and then expect them to work. Its how TT protect their product and post purchase map sales.

I believe there are ways around this, as I have seen talk about it on some forums.

Hope this helps

Wilking,

I'm aware of all that but thanks for the info. I believe some of the TT One's don't have a card slot and so you are stuck with the capacity it comes with (unless you want to get fully hardcore and start soldering in more memory - not worth the hassle IMHO!)
