Duratec 3.0 V6 Engine and Installation Parts

Regrettably, I have decided to sell my Caterham rebuild project. I have sold the chassis separately. I haven't touched this in a couple of years, owing to getting married and my priorities changing. I have decided that it will be too long before I am in a position to finish it properly, and so I am selling it and some other things with a view to purchasing a complete car.

I put a lot of effort into researching all kinds of engines for my project, but eventually made my mind up on the alloy 3.0ltr Ford Duratec V6. This engine was first used by Ford in the '94 Mondeo, in 2.5ltr spec. In '96 the 3.0 was born. It's oversquare with a bore of 89mm and a stroke of 79.5mm, so is a high revving engine that develops max power at 6750rpm.

These engines have been used in a few different cars, notably the Mondeo ST220 and Jaguars (The 2.5, I believe, in Nobles). A few engines got special treatment, variable valve timing and 240bhp. These are fitted to Jaguar S-Types, and this is the engine I opted for.

A bonus with the S-Type engine is that it has DAMB tappets (Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket). This means no hydraulic tappets, which is very beneficial in a performance engine, as the oil can't keep up with the high revs and the hydraulic tappets loose contact. This is an ideal engine for a performance car.

Engine Spec:
2967cc 60deg V6
Dual overhead camshafts
4 valves per cylinder
89mm bore, 79.5mm stroke
Solid tappets
Variable valve timing
240bhp at 6750rpm
221lb ft at 4100rpm

I purchased the engine from Traynors breakers in N.Ireland. It was from an automatic S-Type Jaguar and was sold with having around 40k miles on it. This I believe due to the condition of the cam lobes.

I have removed some of the ancillaries of the engine (Intake manifold, water pump etc). These are included, so the engine could be built up for use in a Jaguar again.

The following parts are included with the sale:

Engine mounts for Caterham chassis (Will probably fit others)
Blasted and powder coated

Electric water pump
Required for neat installation in Caterham

Laminova oil/water heat exchanger
Not essential, but helps engine life and performance

Oil Filter Sandwich/Take off Plate

Gearbox Adaptor plate
Allows use of Type 9 Gearbox with Caterham/K Series bellhousing. This is unfinished, it requires the starter holes to be drilled in whichever location suits best, and then trimmed if no other items are to be mounted to it. The hard work has been done (Accurately using Bridgeport vertical milling machine & digital readout)

Caterham K-Series Bellhousing
For above, complete with correct Caterham starter motor flange

Starter Motor
Both Jaguar and standard Caterham/Type 9 starters supplied

Sump pans
Fabricated, baffled shallow sump pan and modified oil pick up pipe. Neat low profile with good capacity.
Also original cast alloy sump included

Triumph Triple Throttle Bodies
Ideally suited to run this engine using a custom manifold (Required) and aftermarket ECU such as Emerald. Jenvey throttle bodies are available, however fit vertical and do not suit Caterham installation.
These Throttle Bodies could be fitted under the bonnet using a manifold that brings the inlets over the top of the cam covers, towards the sides of the bonnet, permitting an air filter on each side. Various other inlet manifold items (Cast alloy, twin plastic, fuel rails, injectors etc) are included.

Single 80mm Throttle Body
For use if a plenum is decided upon

Yellow 360cc Injectors
Supplied reconditioned from America, these could be fitted to the custom manifold (Should be the correct flow rate). Also 2 other sets of injectors with various fuel rails and manifolds

Exhaust System
Full tubular steel exhaust system for Caterham installation. Uses mandrel bends to avoid kinked tubes. Exits lower side skins, a repackable silencer each side, passes under wheel arch and exits a single pipe out each side. Rear section designed so it can easily be replaced with twin side exits if desired (Not fabricated). Manifolds ceramic coated black internally and externally. Rest of system ceramic coated externally. Silencer skins uncoated. This is still boxed upon return from Camcoat (Cost over £600 for coating alone).

I suspect, fitted & mapped, the engine would produce heading for 300bhp and over 200lb/ft of torque on standard internals. It would be simply breath-taking in a Caterham, Westfield, or any 7. It would also suit anyone building a hot rally car, or a serious performance classic Ford.

I can provide high resolution photos of any part you require and will help give any detail necessary. Please feel free to ask.

I'm asking £1500 for the complete setup, that the includes engine. I can put you in touch with someone who can ship it, within UK probably for around £60.

Contact willie_skelly@hotmail.com if it's of interest.

Thanks,

Willie
