Testing the water
Just wanting people's views on the value of the crossflow coming out this winter.
It's a brand new build, (all receipts from northern rebore services) to prove work done and parts supplied.
1700 crossflow engine with high lift cam, heads been skimmed, blocks been decked and pistons pocketed to allow for extra valve movement.
Currently around 2.5k from new, never had any problems and wouldn't expect to I build it over months and never skimped on a penny.
Twin 40 webbers and jets matched, AAS performance exhaust 4/1 Stainless steel, bosh dizzy but got all the parts for mega jolt.
New as follows (basically everything)
Block honed to bring back to perfect
4 x 1700 pistons and rings
Cam bearings
Big end bearings
Mains and thrusts
Cam from previous race engine but is actually really tractable on the road, then goes crazy
Crank reground 10thou bearings to suit
The head did not have new guides put in due to them wanting £10each and it doesn't use oil!
All new valves, didn't fit the viper springs due to me thinking it would put too much stress on cam. (But I have got them)
Full gasket sets all round.
Cam followers replaced with the best quality I could find
New push rods suited to new head and block length
Rocker gear from old engine but in good shape so didn't replace
Oil return sump plug (really handy on these old engines)
Filters and oil changed after 50 miles/ 200/ 1000/ 2500. (Overkill)
I have 4 boxes of parts water pumps/oil pumps gaskets..... and a whole other engine that will go with the sale. 711m block kept for spares.
Gear box is ford rocket box 4 speed, perfect ratios for kit car, I out run my mates tiger with 2liter ztec R/R'd @ 176bhp. Up to a speed that
you can't say....
I'm taking it to get R/R'd at the end of the month to find out the power I'd say between 125-150bhp. (The F27 only weights 480kg)
She's coming out for a bike engine (I know everybody saying don't) but fancie a change and the crossflow was last winters project.
Any feed back would be great full! I will have missed loads but its a Saturday with a hangover..... Cheers.
