Pinto Ignition
Daddylonglegs - 1/6/09 at 10:40 AM

Hi all.

As it seems I am the proud owner of a 1.6 E-Max Pinto , I am now in need of an ignition module for it. I have the hall-effect dizzy (I hope!), and the red cap (so I assume it's the Bosch?)

Anyone got any ideas please?

you could just use a points type dizzy if you can find one

but if your thinking about upgrading later anyway - why not use megajolt ?

then you just need the bottom half of the dizzy to drive the oil pump and you'll have a fully programable ignition system that you can keep when you upgrade
and you'll probably get better mpg as well

if you get the donor bits from a scrapyard (or maybe someone on here) you should be able to get the whole system for £150

btw - what carb have you got at the moment ?

Not sure what carbs I have at the moment, I've got the one that came with the engine, and another from some guy on here (called mcerd1 or something )

I don't mind going to points, but I really don't want to throw too much more money at this engine as I want to save up and buy somoething a little more 'enjoyable'.

thats off a 2.0 pinto from early sierra
(sorry thats all I know, it was on an engine that was removed 15+ years ago)
I guess you could use it on the 1.6 if you can get it re-jetted

the reson I'm suggesting megajolt is it will work on your engine now, and you can swap it strait onto a 'more enjoyable' engine later

it'll work just as well on a 2.0 pinto and its exactly what you need to run a zetec/ redtop on carbs (and most other engines too)

have a read at this site: linky

ps - I got my megajolt from Paulf on this site
