Mini
DarrenW - 1/8/09 at 09:30 PM

Anyone know of a basically sound mini in North england going cheap. Thinking more of a mate of yours with one on drive etc that is not yet advertised. Ideally a half decent mini but where swimbo wants it gone as it makes front garden look untidy - hence not a lot of money.

Im not fussed with doing heavy duty shell restoration, but maybe happy to buy a tired example in need of a bit of light duty TLC and then some fancy bits adding.

Its been 19 years since ive owned one so its going to test my memory ref bad points to look out for. iirc its anything that turns, anything made from metal or anything that needs electric for it to work, other than that they are bullet proof

Have a look on the North East Mini wb site. just bought a 1275 sprite from the site, a mini turbo is on at the moment not sure on the price.

Here you go,

a reg mini city turbo, nearly finished project, comes with almost everything needed to finish, starts and runs mint, I've spent loads on parts and if there isnt any interest then I'll just break it, or keep it haha, I've spent 300 on the mini 130 on turbo, 200 on gauges, 190 on front end panels, 40 steering wheel, 75 on the fuel pump, 110 exhaust 80 to get it put on and tuned from green and whites with new oil n filter, 50 for the carb n inlet manifold, 35 for the green filter, 30 quid on air pipe, 30 for front brake lines, its got metro four pots on aswell which either need bleeding or a new master cylinder, its got new rear backplates on which cost 40 quid, new shoes 14 quid, and other bits and pieces, they havent even seen the road yet and havent been used properly, this all adds up 1324 pounds! which is obviously what I'm going to ask for it, or maybe the closest offer, still needs a bit of work doing but nothing major and it runs mint, just let me know if your interested, there's pics in my album, I need money for my audi s2! Hi Darren, My son had one which was in very good shape except needed rear arches doing - ideal contender for rear engine, he sold it to a guy from Ulverston whose dad ran a Robin Hod. We saw him at a show and apparently car hadn't been touched- off out for the day now but can do some digging tonight when we get back.

Thanks for the link KJ. Nice one.

Looks like ive missed a couple of half decent projects recently. The clubman estate from Peterlee was a bit cheap.

Is Green and Whites still going strong these days? In my mini days they were across at Rainton, seem to recall at one end of the village.

I think green and white are still going but the mini place in Sunderland buys all the good ones.
If you join the mini forum its free and you can place an ad straight away.
What about the flip front one on the site?
On the mini forum the general one a lad down Wakefield puts a few on now and again.

If I can prise it out of the wife's hands (its hers), then we have an F reg City E which has been in the back garden for about 6 years. Has servo disc brakes (one of the first) and is still a 998cc one.

As with all late 80's minis, the front end is a bit...well, rusty, but I do have 2 genuine Mk4 front wings and also a genuine front panel (over £400 last time I checked the prices). Needed a scuttle repair and most likely A panels (as they all do).

Other bits i can see are a bonnet and possibly a door (the bottoms are sound, its the window frame!).

We keep it for sentimental reasons (her first Mini), but she has a 1990 Auto now. If its going to a good home (i.e. restored to standard glory) then she might just part with it. Money is down to me...

It was parked up when she fell ill (still is), so didn't pack up, or fail an MoT. Last time I tried to start it, the alternator had siezed...

Its certainly worth sending me details, pics and price but distance will probs be the killer, plus im hoping to see a low mileage car soon.
