Wtd: Mig Welder
flak monkey - 23/10/09 at 11:39 AM

Looking for a semi industrial mig welder for the new garage.

I can run a 16A single phase supply so no problems there.

Would rather spend the money on a good secondhand one as long as parts are easily available rather than a cheapo clarke one.

Anyone got one?

Cheers,
David

Spend the cash, get yourself a Portamig off weldquipe on the mig welding forum.

Worth every penny imo...

What sort of money are they?

I think its a case of send him (weldquipe) a PM telling him what you want and ask him for a quote.
- Not done it myself and i know there are more than the clarke ones clearly but apprently his prices are often very good.

How about this one, too far for me, I've got the transarc of the same era and as said they don't make them like that no more

Sadly spares are a problem for them apparently.

I dont really want to spend over £250 so the Transmig ones are massively over my budget.

That means a new Portamig is well out of price range.

Mine was about £550 I think, for the 185, and including a longer (4m) torch.

The Clarkes are not actually that bad - Weldequip is a Clarke dealer as well, and he services/repairs them if and when they need it. Apparently, they have got a lot better in the last few years.

Nice guy to deal with, rather than some no-brain MM salesman

If I could get a new Clarke 151 for £250 that may be an option (i.e. machine marts price with the VAT off)

Will see whats around

Cheers,
David
