Wtd: 2" Exhaust for CEC
dhutch - 2/11/09 at 08:45 PM

I think im a bit loud for trackdays and have one booked for the 20th so am looking at options for replacing the silencer to get below 105db.

Just somthing/anything to fit onto a 2inch pipe with a straight through perf pipe and a bit more wadding left in it than my current one.

Doesnt have to by tidy at all if its cheap, otherwise im open to offers on anything else at all.

Look on fleabay for an XJ40 exhaust. Normally sell for 10 - 15 and are very good at keeping the noise down

I've got a Jag XJS backbox here that came off a Fury - I believe it's in good nick - any use ?

There was a "how to" for a home made silencer on the Sylva Google group.
Made from a tin can and if you fail the noise test just clamps on to the tail pipe!

What a beautifull peice of engineering...
- But no, in all seriousness, if really comes to it, thats what its going to be.

Is this the sort of thing you where thinking of speedy? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jaguar-Daimler-XJ40-XJ6-NSR-Silencer-86-94_W0QQitemZ160371827904QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item25 56e7e4c0

Certainly an option if it comes to it to take almost anything, stick it on the side of the car, and think about doing somthing later.

What does your xjs backbox look like claire?

Obviously however if i can get a something that could be neat enough to be a permant install that would be optimum.

It's about 5" round , and quite long , with central inlet/exit and a 45degree outlet allready in place .
Condition-wise it looks like new , having lived in the sill of a Fury (for not that many miles...)
It was fairly quiet with a crossflow , I used the same on mine with the crossflow .

Sounds good to me, whats the internal constuction do you know?
- I think ive got room for about 600mm, maybe 700 at a real push.

Presumably it looks like these (shamelessly stolen photos of what are apprently xjs backboxes)
