Other than using sat nav which I would rather not anyone know of one, found one on eBay but its shocking pink, now I'm in touch with my feminine side but not that in touch.

Just see it as a quick way around speedo issues, magnets calibration etc......

Marine ? Seem expensive though and dont read high enough ?

Hi there.
Search " FORERUNNER 301" on ebay.
This is a garmin GPS device for runners, cyclists etc and has a speedo function.
I use one in my Spyder as the usual speedo is unreliable.
I attach it to one of the steering wheel spokes.
It reads well into three figures.
The 201 or 101 models are similar I think and might be cheaper.
The display is customisable and you can have the speed reading as the main part of the display.

I'm not far from you Jon, only at J27. You can try mine out if you wish.

Gps speedo is an IVA fail, plus it takes up to a minute to get a lock, sometimes as low as a second, depending on what info is stored in the GPS from last lock.

My Forerunner takes maybe thirty seconds at most to get a lock. So by the time I've shut the garage door its fine. It should be as accurate as any other GPS speedo.
Battery time is eleven hours in summer, less in winter. It charges from my PC via USB so could be charged using a car/USB power adaptor.
It has lots of features to play with (if you wish). It stores your route and plots it on google earth when you get home.
It has full lap timing / stopwatch. etc.
The display updates every second or so.

Have you attached the heart-rate monitor!!! I'd like to see those plots.

I only use the heart rate monitor when cycling.
I'll try it when driving and see if my heart rate increases with speed.

So who records the mileage for future use?

The same person that records the mileage when the magnets fall off the prop shaft on every other kit car ever built, I see where your coming from but where talking very low annual mileage kits not motorway hacks.

Anyhow I'm been cremated in mine so I'm the only person that needs to be concerned about the mileage.

The OP was asking for a speedometer, not an odometer.
I know that a record of mileage may be necessary for limited mileage insurance policies and possibly for MOT but thats a seperate matter.
Lots of people disconnect their standard speedos anyway, don't they?

I have a road angel as my speedo. 25 quid off bay. works well and may stop you getting done for speeding aswell.

Road angel, aren't they the big oval one ? how big is the speed readout ? 3 big digits ? (sorry officer, 2 big digits) 3 for track day use.
