Anyone want to sell me a fuel pump?
scudderfish - 8/4/11 at 01:20 PM

Out for a blast today and the car was fine until about after an hour it started to cut out and the AFR went through the roof. Pulled over and it all looked fine. Went to restart the engine and on the priming pulse my high pressure pump sounded very sick. I let it all cool for a few minutes, restarted and made it home.

The pump I currently have is one of those £25 jobs from ebay and I want to replace it. However there don't appear to be any reasonably priced ones around at the moment. Does anyone have one they want to get rid of?

Regards,
Dave

I have also got one of those pumps, £29 ebay - blue casing - I have done about 1200 miles with it, and tonight it only pumps enough through to tickover for 30 secs, then the engine dies - mine is also making a hell of a whining racket - at least it guided me to where the fault lay.

I have read quite a few threads on LCB about these pumps - and I think they are nearer £40 now, but they aren't any good.

Anyone any ideas regarding how to source a better one? I note Adrian (Adithorp) has replied to previous threads sayinghe has a bosch one from an turbo escort?

My problem turned out to be the filter feeding into my surge tank. I was slowly draining the tank and the pump was running dry. Whilst the 'few minutes cooling' was going on, my LP pump was still running and that filled the surge tank sufficiently to get home. The same thing happened on the way to Stoneleigh, so I swapped the filter there and had a trouble free drive home.

Dave

I think my pump is goosed - I only have the one HP pump, (no swirl pot) takes fuel straight from the tank (via a prefilter) then to a second filter just before the fuel rail. The pump sounds knackered. Tank is nearly full.

Check the filter anyway. If it's blocked the pump will be starved and sound sick.
