Record No 75 vice jaws
DIY Si - 29/12/11 at 05:00 PM

Having recently acquired an old Record No 75 vice, I'm cleaning it up and it could do with a new set of jaws as mine have been abused and the tops bashed over. Does anyone have a good set lying about they don't need? Or know of a set as Google has failed to turn up any new ones! If not, can anyone make me a pair at all? It's just the normal 5 1/4" cross hatch pattern, bolt into from behind versions that I'm looking for.

Thanks all.

I'll have a look next week as we have a few damaged vices in the back of a cupboard just waiting for this very occasion, it will be Wednesday or Thursday before I am back in the workshop. If you hear nothing dont be frightened to send a U2U. I'm still hunting for a bag of drill return springs for someone else on here and he's been waiting patiently for a couple of months now

id be very interested in this too, I have a record 75 in great nick fortunately but I'd love a set of spare jaws,

I may get a set of soft jaws made up if you're interested in splitting the costs

Confused but excited. - 29/12/11 at 06:55 PM

You can get hard and soft jaws for Irwin/Record vices on ebay. Prices ain't too bad.

The problem with the 75 is that is has 5 1/4" jaws, and I can only find soft fibre jaws. It's the hardened steel ones I could do with, although a soft set never hurts!

Liam, given that I'm after the hard jaws, should it come to getting a set made, would you still be interested?

Get some made up in mild steel bar or Cromwell gauge plate (hardenable if you want) as well, they will last years and don't have the sharp knurl so they don't mark your work.

If a set of mild steel ones would be suitable, and not mark everything the way my old vice used to, I may go that route. They're almost certainly going to be cheaper too as they'll just be flat blocks with two threaded holes.

Liam, can you PM me the details of the soft ones if you get a chance to chat to you guy?

They only seem to list the soft jaws. There are steel jaws out there, but having searched for hours I cant find anything that is 5 1/4" wide.
