Hello all.

I'm looking for a shortened sump/pick up pipe for my blacktop without having to pay scholar/raceline/dunnell prices- has anyone got one they're looking to get rid of before I send a u2u to Strontium Dog?

I believe the cheapest way to go is to use the steel sump off a sierra 1800 CVH. Not common but there are a few around. It fits, needs I think two more bolt holes drilling and tapping in the bottom of the block and can be shortened by anyone with a hacksaw and a mig.
If you can find one its the cheapest way to go. Adding baffles would be a good idea.

If its a blacktop then the bottom half of the sump is steel anyway so can be cut and shut cheply and easily.
thats what i'm doing anyway.

Most of the sumps I've seen welded with a MIG tend to weep oil due to the cold starts. I find it best to use TIG.

I would give it a bash, but I lack both the ability and facility. I've asked Mr. Strontium Dog nicely and he's going to do it for me.

Probably time I brought a welder, but a half decent one would cost me more than paying someone else to do the few bits I need. And I'd probably make a hash of it as my welding experience extends to about half an hour- 15 minutes MIG, 15 minutes TIG!

No time like the present to learn a new skill.! gotta start somewhere. my £50 clarke 90amp has done me proud for past 5 yrs and is fine for basic tasks.
