Metal polisher
jimgiblett - 25/4/12 at 02:01 PM

Hi I am looking to have my cam cover de-lettered and mirror polished. I had a quote from a guy on ebay a little while back of £70 but am not getting any replies to the emails.

Anybody recommend a good polisher.

Cheers

Jim

do it yourself;
angle grind letters off
Then sand with gradually finer paper
Then buff with polishing paste and polisher.
Be able to buy all stuff for less than the quote

I did consider this but there are loads of nooks and crannies so will take me an age and will probably look cr8p. I am also so busy at work at the moment I dont think I'd get it done.

Annoyingly it is just too big to fit in the dishwasher so I havent been able to degrease it

I wouldn't even attempt it myself and we have most of the polishing equipment at work to do stuff like this. Polishing is a soul destroying and dirty job but a good polisher will make light work of it and make it look easy. Trust me, if you start it yourself, you'll wish you'd paid to have it done. Some aluminiums just won't take a mirror polish and it could end up looking worse for it. Even at £100 it would be money well spent.

Thats if the guy does a good job.

If its a PITA and charging £70 he may not be that good.

Just a thought.

Oh, and I would attempt almost anything myself but I could not be ar$ed with that!!!!

I would mill the letters off, sandblast the whole thing and powdercoat in a silver colour.

Confused but excited. - 25/4/12 at 09:36 PM

Or go for a satin anodised finish to match the inlet manifold. Not as expensive as you might think
