2 small stainless pins machined
Mistron - 8/11/12 at 09:49 PM

Hi folks,

I'm looking for someone who could turn me up a couple of threaded pins.

I have a rough sketch available, but basically they are 10mm dia. 25mm long, with a 1mm 45 deg chamfer on the cut end. the 10mm dia then reducing to 8mm dia for 5mm, then an M8 x 35mm threaded section. There is to be a 3mm dia hole cross drilled through the 10mm dia section, 10 mm in from the chamfered end

Could anyone with a lathe help out?

payment for time, materials and postage available, of course.

if anyone can help, please email me, or drop me a U2U

Many thanks.

Al

Not sure if anyone else is puzzled but how can you have 35mm of thread on a 25mm long bar?...I guess that's why the sketch would be handy.

From your description it sounds like a quick release bonnet pin post?

it's 25mm at 10mm dia, then 40mm at 8mm dia, of which 35mm is threaded. 65mm overall length

It's actually part of a roof rack design I'm working on, rather than part of the car itself.

Ah makes sense now.....not an architect by any chance?

Hopefully someone can knock those up easily...I would do myself but the distance is a bit impractical...

Hi Al, we could easily do it if there's some 10mm studding about at work, just had a look in the garage and the only piece I can find here is slightly curved as 'someone' must have used in to help secure an engine to an engine stand at some point!
I'll send my work e mail up and assuming no one in Edinburgh volunteers you can send the drawing once I've checked the material is there.
