WTD: Space Heater For Garage
Barkalarr - 12/12/12 at 06:56 PM

Looking for a cheap space heater just to take the chill out of the air so I can finish the car and get it IVA'd.
It was -4 this morning and I keep getting an ice cream headache!!!
It's only to heat a double garage.

I've got a propane bottle with some life left in it.

Anyone got anything ?

Looked at that but it was a bit more than I really wanted to pay... anything 2nd hand / cheaper?

I've started looking for one too. They have shot up in price now it's cold so I ordered the 2000watt electric ones.

i would imagine the price on heaters goes up at this time of year

airconditioning units though would be cheap, bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

if you've got electric, i'd go for some IR heaters, switch on for instant heat, it heats you rather than wasting on heating the air up. i got a 800w one for £30 in my double garage, you have to be fairly close to it to get the benefit, but 2 or 3 spread about would fix that. won't need gas (or the fumes) and won't cause condensation
look on ebay for IR patio heaters

yep was -4 in my unit too. Bloody cold. I have two halogen heaters mate. 1200w each and they will work a treat in a garage. Only cost £22 from EBay including postage...

jossey - 13/12/12 at 06:55 PM

2000w heaters are £25 on eBay.

I have two of them now.

But not I've looked there are 1200w ones for £10 may have been better with 4 of them.

My garage is huge 8.4m x 5m with a pitched roof so a lot of space for the heat to sit.

I had a space heater 48k btu the devil 3000 it used a 16kg bottle in a weekend so I sold it.

Now my mate is trying to sell it on too lol

I've managed to bag myself a Clarke Little Devil like this
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/little-devil-propane-fired-space-heater/brand/clarke

Hopefully this will do the job. The garage doesn't have a pitched roof (there's a room above it) and I've put brushes around the doors in the hope this will keep some heat in.

Fingers crossed, I'll be able to ripen bananas in there (or will just get high on propane) next week.

Slightly OT but might be worth putting up an insulated suspended ceiling if height not required. Just a thought

I agree with ye just need to make more room in garage as the roof space is full of crap.
