alfiebeard - 30/5/13 at 08:07 PM

Hi all,

Has anyone got a Lucas 12v C40 Dynamo up for grabs? its the type thats very common they were fitted to most british cars in the 60s and 70s, could also do with a 2 bobbin regulator with spade connections as well.

Thanks

Alfie

Hi thanks for that, I have seen a few on e bay but I would rather trust Locostbuilders members.

ive got a mk1 escort with a dynamo on it, im planning to replace it with an alternator. the one thats on the car is pretty new, still quite clean and works nicely. its got the bulkhead mounted regulator box that you can go with it.

whats a fair price do you think?

Hi thanks for the reply, ive been given one that does'nt charge so I am going to check the field windings this weekend, if I can make one up out of the two then all will be well, if not I will get back to you, I am not sure of a fair price but they go on e bay from £10 to £35 for a very good one.

A good trick when reviving old dynamos when cleaning up the commutator for new brushes is rub shellac varnish (in the old days we used Green Hermmetite jointing compound ) into the gaps between commutator segments.

Hi Gents,

Thanks for your replies and advice...I finally got it sorted the field windings were short circuited by a screw that had jammed between the coils.
