Well after my 6 o clock drive to work in the kit this morning I've been officially banned from commuting in it until I get a quieter exhaust Talk about a dictator state I think the text I received at 6.05 read "that feckin car has just shook the whole bloody house and woke the wee one up!!"

To be fair I love my straight through R1 can but its a bit wearing on a longer journey.

Anyway i'm waffling, has anyone got a reasonably quiet exhaust can for a carbed R1? Must be in v good condition.

I push mine down the road before starting it. At least then it's only the last couple of houses hear me and they wouldn't know if its the main road or me.

Pushing isnt an option, very steep hill at foot of drive. The problem is exagerated at present with it being warm and everyones windows are wide open.

Why not just fit a standard R1 can? Cheap and quiet.
I bought two off ebay paying £17 for one and £8.40 for the other!

That's my initial plan but they seem to be jumping up on price just lately. I do have a few in my watch list.

Out of interest how is the 5pw std can compared to the 4xv noise wise?

I have a 5JJ can on my car. I would have thought that all standard cans are made to meet similar noise regs.

Is the 5jj can titanium? How did you get on fitting it?

The 5JJ can has titanium sleeve and some internals. External end caps are alloy. I bought two so that I had two hanging brackets available. I replaced the standard angled end pipe with a 63mm 45 degree slash cut item. Fitting was straightforward as I was making a new full system at the time. I retained the standard link pipe.
The can does look restrictive in its internal construction but Yamaha seem to know what they are doing. It has made little or no difference to performance as far as I can tell but it hasn't been RR tested with the R1 can on. Its definitely quiet.
Some people say that performance has been affected when they fitted an R1 can. Do a search...

I've managed to find a brand new carbon 4xv can that's been sat in a guys loft for the past 14 years unused for a v good price. I know they are pretty quiet as my iva spec exhaust is the standard one but I didn't want to use that as it's scruffy and has a cat welded to it.

The internals in them do look quite restrictive when you pull them apart but I doubt I will notice too much. I will miss the popping and odd flame on the overun though!
