WTD. Pinto crankshaft pulley
MP3C - 21/1/14 at 10:51 PM

You guys have never let me down. Looking for a standard (or cheapish alternative) double V pully for the crankshaft on a 2.0ltr Pinto engine.

Managed to break mine trying to get it off with pulley puller (bugger is still stuck fast!)

Thanks

Matt

do you really need the double V ?
the older Cortina style ones are only a single V and should be fine if your not running a power steering pump

you can get brand new steel copies of the Cortina ones from burtons, ebay, etc... but they are made a little smaller to suit high revving competition engines better

Ive realised the crank pulley on mine must be from a Cortina pulley as it's a single V but doesnt look like the single V pulley in the Sierra manual.

Am I right in thinking the first (left most) timing mark on this pulley is indeed TDC / 0 degrees ?

^^ from memory actual TDC is in-line with the keyway on the crank
but the marks are offset a bit (because the pointer isn't directly above the crank on the block) so whichever mark is lined up when the keyway is at the top should be the TDC one

as far as I know there are a few versions of these pulleys

one part cast iron ones with a single V found in cars like cortina's etc...
they are a sort of 4 spoke design

the late ones had a two part double V pulley with a rubber damper in the middle (horrible things ) - these are found on the EFI engines mostly and have 4 threaded holes in the middle bit

and a larger diameter one part single V version that looks similar but its designed for the low revving transit engines to run the water pump and alternator faster - maybe too fast for a high revving tuned engine...

there may have been a few other variants for the older sierra's etc. - but they are all basically the same - just make sure its not the oversized transit one

if you need to check sizes - this is the one I got made up based on the dimensions of a cortina one:
